Veneer Backing
Boards
We are proud to
offer the following raw material for use as engineered flooring wear
layers/lamellas:
North American
Species Veneer Backer Boards – these are the two boards, which
remain from each veneer quality log that is sliced for veneer.
(As these are byproducts from the veneer slicing operations
they are considered recycled post industrial/pre-consumer and
qualify as such)
Veneer quality
logs are the biggest, clearest and best logs that the forest yields
and are purchased by veneer mills for many times the price standard
saw logs used for lumber production are sold for.
Each log yields
two backer boards taken from the center of the log and contain the
center of the logs heart wood, (which is waste), and then the “crème
de la crème” straight grained wood on either side of the heart.
Hence, these backer boards yield only straight grained wood
of the finest quality – it runs typically 90% = rift/quartered.

Each container
load produces between 900 & 1200 M2 of A/B grade lamellas/flooring
wear layers. Yield
varies slightly dependent on your sizes and grading.
The backer
boards are:
1)
typically 8’-6”
– 13’ long (2.5M to 3.9M long)
2)
and for
thickness either:
a.
Thins – are
typically 6mm – 9mm thick (yielding one wear layer/lamella) or
b.
Mediums - are
typically 10mm – 14mm thick (yielding two wear layers/lamellas) or
c.
Thicks – are
typically 18mm + (yielding three wear layers/lamellas)
3)
air dried
